Fantastic potential but currently with few bugs

I run a web agency and has been using Serveravatar LTD to manage my VPS. When bunnyshell came up, I bought it immediately, looking to replace SA. I was greeted with many bugs along the way. First, upon setting up, I installed a Wordpress installation. However, that did not work and I was not able to delete the application (weird). I contact support and Tocila (who was very polite), informed me that they identified the problem and would open a ticket for a fix. That was bug #1.

I thrashed the entire virtual server and re-created another one. This time, the WordPress installation went smoothly. I then proceeded to attempt a site migration. Using migrate guru, I attempted to migrate my existing site via SFTP. I had trouble finding the wpconfig file for the migration to start and I messaged support. No replies. Eventually dug the directory and found out that the installed wpconfig file for the application is under the folder "app".

The next bug was mentioned in a post below mine. After the migration was completed, I attempted to change the primary domain to my own. I was not able to do it. Even though it shows that my primary domain is the one I attached, it still redirects me to the cloud.bunnyroute.com subdomain. Possible bug #2. I am waiting for support to fix this.

All in all, Bunnyshell is a very promising product. I acknowledge that it is still a rather small startup with less than 25 employees. Perhaps it is due to my timezone (+8 GMT), but support was rather slow and hard to reach. With all the bugs now, I find it hard to readily switch over to bunnyshell for my business needs.

Lastly, I am alarmed by how easy it is to accidentally delete an application or virtual server. It would be great if we require a password, or at least require a secondary step before the deletion of any applications or servers.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend this product as an investment for people who intend to use it for business. Although unpolished, I have faith that this team is able to bring this PAAS to great heights. I will update when support has given me an answer on how to fix the domain issue :)

AMAZING DEAL!

Amazing deal by SaaS Mantra for Bunnyshell.

The software is top-notch, very responsive team and company (both Saasmantra and Bunnyshell) and the 10 codes stack is a no-brainer for anybody in the hosting industry.

Don't hesitate, this is a brilliant tool.

Update: The Support is amazing

Updated Review: Support has been amazing, all the issues I had, have been answered

I really wanted this to work but it seems impossible. I do not have cloud hosting experience using DO and Bunnyshell/Gridpane etc but i am more than capable of working things out for myself in most circumstances.

To be precise - I already connected my Digital ocean account.
I read the docs (most are not up to date and that drives me mad) -
And yet the process of adding a Wordpress website is giving me nightmares.
Firstly, It is impossible to install Wordpress on a web server (not on a VM), during the process it only allows me to select VM as destination.

So I created a VM, installed apache, mysql and php and Installed Wordpress - however - during the installation process it is required to choose an application name (the domain you want to use - so I believed) but it does not work.
You end up with a domain url like https://wordpress*****.bunnyroute.com/ and no way to easily change it to your domain name.

This whole situation has cost me a whole day pulling my hair out.
If tech support actually get in touch to help me I will keep my deal because the speed of a copy of my original website is less than 1 second on BunnyShell + DO but I only found this out by migrating my site to the default url https://wordpress*****.bunnyroute.com/ which is why i am here, complaining because i want the speed but can't understand the complexities without help.

@Andy: thank you for addressing your concerns here. I apologize for the delay in technical assistance, our engineers are focused on providing support while also integrating new features and it's quite overwhelming.

I'm sorry you lost more time with setting the Wordpress than it was supposed to, hopefully you will find it easy enough after you do it once with our support guidance.

You are more than welcome to help us understand how can we improve the Wordpress deployment experience in an email at grig.duta@bunnyshell.com

Thank you for the review and for trying out Bunnyshell !

@Andy: This scares me. All of my local client sites are built on wordpress. Can you please let me know if you got this resolved. I'm tempted to pull the trigger but i'm a bit afraid i'm in over my head technically with the migration. I'm currently on SiteGround so I would need to make the switch over to DigitalOcean to take the fullest advantage.

@Grig: Would you care to explain here what the issue was and why Andy encountered it? This is the type of thing that will stop people buying the LTD or using your service so would be good to address it. I've seen elsewhere that people are complaining about the speed of your service. Is this connected to this issue?

@Andy: The solution is very simple. No need to fret. The steps below in order
1. Create a VM
2. Install wordpress application with an application name (note - this name is for identification and has nothing to do with domain name)
3. Before completing the setup of wordpress from the link generated ( it will be a wordpress*****.bunnyroute.com link) you need to change the primary domain under domain tab to the custom domain name xxxxx.com or whatever your choice is.
4. After changing primary domain, pls make DNS (A record) change in your domain account (ie A record should point to IP address given)
5. Now go to certificates and change primary domain there too. Post that install a fresh certificate.
6. Now click the wordpress link and complete the setup.
7. If you have followed above steps correctly, you will have a https custom domain without bunnyroute subdomain.
Summing Up: Trick is to change primary domain under domain and certificate before completing wordpress setup.

Some queries
1 - Can BunnyShell unlimited be used to data-synchronize between my 1Drive (2 accounts) & GDrive (2 accounts)? All 4 Drives are Enterprise / Business accounts but I do not have admin access but only user access.
2 - Can BunnyShell be used by me as an interface to store data on any of my purchased or owned web-servers?

After going thru all the help files, video and questions, please update if what I understand is correct or not.

1. Once I have 10 codes, I can manage unlimited servers , unlimited nodes, unlimited customers, unlimited resellers (my own) and unlimited websites.
2. BunnyShell can be used by me to plug to the various types and kinds of web-server & cloud-server infrastructures as purchased by me whether it be a LTD or a monthly plan.
3. Although each server & cloud space purchased by me has unique user ID and passwords..................once linked with BunnyShell, I would be able to sell these features separately or as a combination of services as offered to my resellers?
4. Each reseller or customer can be assigned unique userID and password to login using BunnyShell as to avail the various layers of cloud infrastructure (as a combination of many different vendor services) which has been linked with BunnyShell?

@Arun: thank you for the questions:
1. currently we don't integrate with any of 1drive or Gdrive, not sure what would be the use case here?
2. Not sure what the use case here either, store data as backup or..?

1. correct, except resellers. we'd have to define that, can you please reply explaining what is a reseller reselling?
2. bunnyshell helps you manage your cloud servers or vps. they can be either from our cloud partners with which we integrate natively and you can connect your accounts, or any server that you can connect through a command.
3. you can connect your servers and you would see them either all in one organisation or in separate organisations, if I understood your question correctly.
4. yes, you can invite other users to your organisations and they can also create their own organisations separately. each invitee will became a bunnyshell user. from this LTD can benefit you and the organisations you create, not the organisations your clients create.

Hope that makes sense.

@Grig: Thank you for replying

Let me shed more light on what we intend to do;
a) we intend to generate revenue after creating organizations under us on a subscription
b) the organizations created under us can either resell the service to their customers
c) the organizations created under us can also utilize all services for their own use

(The first 1 & 2 are being numbered as i & ii for easy reference)

i) Could you please give a timeline about integration with 1Drive as well as Gdrive (in fact this is a solution which would really help me to convince my organization as to buy 10 codes)
.........as this would be used for;
- monthly or periodic data backup from devices like laptops, mobiles, tablets, on station servers etc.
- monthly or periodic data synchronization (on-the-cloud) between two or more 1Drive and Gdrive business / enterprise accounts

ii) The intended usage would be for data storage as well as data backup (depending on the need of the hour).........it would be another great feature-attraction from Bunnyshell as to be able to integrate with other cloud-based as well as legacy data-storage and data-backup providers.

I run sites on DigitalOcean (DO) via Webmin (no Cpanel, no FTP or mail servers) using PhpMyAdmin, Putty and Filezilla and SSH tunnels. There are typically 6 or 8 virtual servers (mixed platforms) per droplet/VPS, running on Nginx (open source) using various modules and addons (Modsecurity, microcache, Fail2ban, Letsencrypt, GeoIP, etc..). I currently use Nginx Amplify to monitor the sites:

- do you count virtual servers or droplets as servers?
- normally DO charges/resizes per CPU/RAM or CPU/RAM/DISK per month - do you scale/provision by resources or number of servers or both?
- how does DO charge me for your scaling?
- would Bunnyshell replace Webmin, or work with it?
- does load balancing require me to create extra upstream servers?
- are your own servers in Romania?
- Crunchbase says you were founded in 3/2018 - do you have offices outside Romania, or plan to?
- Crunchbase says you have 3 employees - LinkedIn says 19. Which is closer?

Please don't misunderstand. I like what I see. Just doing homework before throwing some money your way.
Thanks for your kind attention.

@Steven: very legit questions, thank you for posting them. Let's get into it:
1. When connecting digitalocean to bunnyshell, a droplet is counted as a server in this LTD and you can manage up to 5 per code.
2. we can scale vertically (increase CPU/RAM of the same machine) or horizontally (this is for a load balanced web server). vertical scaling is triggered manually and it has some downtime as we create a new machine and move everything. horizontal scaling is triggered automatically based on rules. (ex: cpu > 60% for more than 5 minutes)
3. DO charges you for the resources you consume, type of server, amount of time you used it
4. Bunnyshell replaces Webmin, doesn't work with it
5. Load balancing happens when you create a web server and run it on more than an instance. it's a very simple setup using bunnyshell, once you create the webserver you select it for your deployment. Please note load balanced web servers only work with custom deployed applications, not with the one click applications.
6. we don't have any servers, we're a cloud management platform, not an infrastructure company. we integrate with a couple of cloud providers to make things easier for you.
7. no offices outside Romania, no plans for now to open new offices. putting it all on the product :)
8. we have 18-19 or so employees, not sure anymore, we're growing day by day :)

Let me know if I missed anything. Looking forward to having you onboard Steven.

Can you point to the page on your site that shows what we are getting in this LTD? I checked your pricing page but it is about buying hosting via one of the cloud providers and then using your platform to manage that hosting account.

What is the actual hosting plan that we get when we purchase 1 code or if we purchase the max 10 codes? Or is it the mere ability to use your platform to manage hosting accounts in which we need to pay extra ..and is the pricing the same as listed on your pricing page or do we LTD customers get a better deal?

Thank you in advance.

@Mike: I'm not with Bunnyshell, but I can explain it a bit. This deal does NOT include the servers themselves. It just includes the management part of it. So the only cost you will have to pay after this LTD is the cost of whatever server you are using (no extra costs from Bunnyshell, but just the pricing on the server's website).

@Mike: Brent answered your question pretty nice. Yes, our normal pricing depends on the resources you have under management with bunnyshell and it's on monthly/hourly basis. This LTD offers you server management for up to 5 servers/deal code for LIFETIME. The deal does not include any computing resources (servers), you can register an account with any cloud provider we integrate with and pay directly to them for your monthly resource consumption. Hope that makes sense.

@Pranesh: thank you for posting. Yes, you can invite a new user to one of your organisations and he has to create an account as well to access bunnyshell. Once he registers an account with us he will be able to access the organisation you invited him to and also create other organisations himself. This does not limit you as an agency, you can create an organisation for each of your clients and can also give them access to their organisations. They will only be able to access the organisation you invited them too, not the other ones you have. Let me know if it's still unclear.

2) If so, is this only for the direct integrations (AWS/DO/Azure)?
3) If we can import other VPS's like OVH or Contabo, does Bunnyshell do complete VPS snapshots that we can then save to Google Drive? What folders get backed up exactly?
4) If we can import other VPS's like OVH or Contabo, what exactly can Bunnyshell do (since these are not directly integrated VPS's)"

1) Fail2ban no, nginx directives yes. (for fail2ban please add idea on ideas.bunnyshell.com)
2) No, they work on any server connected to bunnyshell
3) We support for database / application dir / custom directory backups for imported servers. All backups are saved automatically in S3 by our system and will be available in Bunnyshell Dashboard. Soon we'll have more options to choose from for backup storage, even come with your own.
4) because we have a native integration with some cloud providers, we are able to provision servers on their cloud from our platform. so anything that depends on provisioning cannot be done with servers from other vendors. example, you cannot deploy a database in cluster mode on 3 virtual machines unless you are using aws, do or azure.

I am testing your platform in free trial, but?

1.- I can't find a way to clone an app
2.- I can't find an option to clone a server
3.- I feel very slow using the platform.
4.- When can I use a Web server?
5.-When can I use a virtual machine?

@Fernando: thank you for trying out bunnyshell,

1. & 2 You can clone a server from a snapshot. You go to Virtual Machine -> Backups -> Take Snapshot, once the snapshot is created, click Restore Snapshot
3. We are using marketing tools to optimize customer experience and it seems they slow down the UI, thank you for notifying us.
4. You can use a web server when you want to deploy an application with load balancer, on more than 1 virtual machine
5. You can use a virtual machine when you need to deploy a single instance application

Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm happy to help you.

Hi,
I have read all the questions and all the replies and the deal details. I do have some questions still. Since I would be primarily buying this deal for backups, my questions are for backups only:
1) Do you do file level/ block level backups?

2) What are the options available under backups for the frequency of backups? And can we set different frequencies for different servers?

3) Can we also manage backups as per choice of website/ app on a particular server? for example, Site A, B, C on server 1 and Site X, Y Z on server 2 instead of all sites on both servers?

4) What is the restore process like for website/ server level? How fast/ slow is it?

5) Are there any charges for backup restore? if we are going to store backups in our own storage (AWS/ whatever you support later on as I understand that you have a limit of 20gb for LTD which is fair).

6) By when can we expect to have "use your own space" for backups? I know its in roadmap but priorities might change with OLS and other important and more sellable tools - and you understand that backups are very very important :)

7) 10 stakcs unlimited deals is really unlimited? We are a hosting company and might have literally 500-1000s of customers who may use it to manage their DO/ other servers that they buy through us. This is important to clarify since you have mentioned Unlimited :)

8) Do you provide any APIs/ webhooks to create sub accounts/ sub organizations and to Add server details for backups and to initiate/ restore backups?

Thanks, Bipul

@Bipul Agarwal: Hi Bipul and sorry for the delay in answering your questions. Let me answer them one by one:

1. We do both : incremental backup on a file level and snapshots on entire disk
2. For the incremental backup you can configure backup retention and frquency - for the snapshopt of entire disk, we don't have any limit (only the limits from cloud itself)
3. Yes, you can choose if you want to activate backup for all applications from one server or only for some of them.
4. Can't offer a specific answer, depends on size as well.
5. No extra charges for backup restore
6. We understand backups are very important, it's a work in progress, however would like to avoid giving deadlines for a feature.
7. unlimited is unlimited, however there are terms and conditions that apply to reselling the solution.
8. please refer to https://docs.bunnyshell.com/reference/bunnyshell-api , as of now it's not possible to create organisations and accounts through API, or backup details.

Please add or upvote anything you need/want at ideas.bunnyshell.com so we can prioritize it accordingly.

Thank you
